Description

These Tuna Melt Patties are a quick and delicious way to enjoy a classic tuna melt flavor in a crispy, pan-fried patty form. Perfect for a snack or a light meal, they combine tuna, cheddar cheese, and flavorful seasonings, then pan-fried to golden perfection. Ready in just 20 minutes and serving 8, these patties are easy to make and crowd-pleasing.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna, drained and flaked
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)

Optional Garnishes

  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the flaked tuna, shredded cheddar cheese, breadcrumbs, eggs, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated, forming a slightly sticky mixture ready to hold shape when formed into patties.
  2. Form the Patties: Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions and shape each into a small patty about 1/2 inch thick. If the mixture feels too loose or crumbly, add a little more breadcrumbs to help bind the ingredients firmly together.
  3. Cook the Patties: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. When the oil is hot, add the patties carefully, cooking in batches if there’s not enough room. Fry each patty for 3-4 minutes per side until they achieve a golden brown and crispy exterior while remaining heated through.
  4. Serve: Once cooked, transfer the patties onto a paper towel-lined plate to drain off any excess oil. Serve them warm, either as a snack with your favorite dipping sauce or inside a bun as a sandwich. Garnish with chopped green onions or fresh parsley for added flavor and color.

Notes

  • For a firmer texture, chill the patties in the fridge for 10-15 minutes before frying.
  • Use gluten-free breadcrumbs to make this recipe gluten-free.
  • Add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a spicy kick.
  • These patties can be baked at 375°F (190°C) for about 15 minutes as a healthier alternative to frying.
  • Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and can be reheated in a skillet or oven.
