Ingredients
Scale
For the Baked Feta
- 1 block feta (approx. 200g)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Black pepper, to taste
For the Gochujang-Honey Glaze
- 1 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1½ tbsp honey
- 1 tsp rice vinegar or lime juice
- ½ tsp toasted sesame oil
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1 small garlic clove, grated
To Finish
- 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
- Optional: sliced scallions or chili threads
- Warm pita, sourdough, or crackers for serving
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare feta: Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Place the block of feta in a small baking dish or oven-safe skillet. Drizzle the feta with olive oil and season it lightly with black pepper to enhance the flavor.
- Make the glaze: In a bowl, whisk together the gochujang, honey, rice vinegar or lime juice, toasted sesame oil, soy sauce, and grated garlic until you have a smooth, well-combined glaze.
- Apply the glaze: Spoon the prepared gochujang-honey glaze generously over the entire block of feta, ensuring that both the top and sides are well-coated with the flavorful mixture.
- Bake the feta: Place the baking dish with the glazed feta in the preheated oven and bake for 20–22 minutes. Bake until the edges of the feta turn a golden color and the glaze begins to bubble, indicating it is cooked through.
- Broil for caramelization: For extra caramelization, switch the oven to broil and broil the feta for 1–2 minutes. Keep a close eye to prevent burning while achieving a nicely caramelized top.
- Garnish: Remove the feta from the oven and sprinkle toasted sesame seeds over the top. Add sliced scallions or chili threads for extra color and flavor if desired.
- Serve: Serve the warm, glazed baked feta immediately with warm pita bread, sourdough, or crackers for dipping and spreading.
Notes
- You can substitute lime juice for rice vinegar if preferred, adding a slightly different acidity.
- If you like extra heat, add a pinch of chili flakes to the glaze.
- Use an oven-safe skillet for easier serving and minimal cleanup.
- Broiling time can vary; watch carefully to prevent burning.
- Great served with sliced vegetables as an alternative to bread or crackers.
