Description

This Swicy Baked Feta with Gochujang Honey Glaze is a delightful fusion appetizer combining creamy, tangy feta cheese baked to golden perfection, topped with a spicy, sweet, and savory Korean-inspired glaze. Perfect for serving warm with bread or crackers, it offers an irresistible balance of flavors and textures that will elevate any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Baked Feta

  • 1 block feta (approx. 200g)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Black pepper, to taste

For the Gochujang-Honey Glaze

  • 1 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1½ tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar or lime juice
  • ½ tsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 small garlic clove, grated

To Finish

  • 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
  • Optional: sliced scallions or chili threads
  • Warm pita, sourdough, or crackers for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare feta: Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Place the block of feta in a small baking dish or oven-safe skillet. Drizzle the feta with olive oil and season it lightly with black pepper to enhance the flavor.
  2. Make the glaze: In a bowl, whisk together the gochujang, honey, rice vinegar or lime juice, toasted sesame oil, soy sauce, and grated garlic until you have a smooth, well-combined glaze.
  3. Apply the glaze: Spoon the prepared gochujang-honey glaze generously over the entire block of feta, ensuring that both the top and sides are well-coated with the flavorful mixture.
  4. Bake the feta: Place the baking dish with the glazed feta in the preheated oven and bake for 20–22 minutes. Bake until the edges of the feta turn a golden color and the glaze begins to bubble, indicating it is cooked through.
  5. Broil for caramelization: For extra caramelization, switch the oven to broil and broil the feta for 1–2 minutes. Keep a close eye to prevent burning while achieving a nicely caramelized top.
  6. Garnish: Remove the feta from the oven and sprinkle toasted sesame seeds over the top. Add sliced scallions or chili threads for extra color and flavor if desired.
  7. Serve: Serve the warm, glazed baked feta immediately with warm pita bread, sourdough, or crackers for dipping and spreading.

Notes

  • You can substitute lime juice for rice vinegar if preferred, adding a slightly different acidity.
  • If you like extra heat, add a pinch of chili flakes to the glaze.
  • Use an oven-safe skillet for easier serving and minimal cleanup.
  • Broiling time can vary; watch carefully to prevent burning.
  • Great served with sliced vegetables as an alternative to bread or crackers.
