Ingredients
Scale
Pie Crust
- 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts), softened
Filling
- 1 1/2 cups apple pie filling, chopped
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp cinnamon
For Frying and Finishing
- Vegetable oil (for frying, about 2 inches deep)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp water
- Optional: cinnamon sugar (for coating)
Instructions
- Prepare Cheesecake Filling: In a small bowl, thoroughly mix softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Set this mixture aside to use as the cheesecake filling.
- Cut Pie Crust Circles: Roll out the softened pie crusts on a lightly floured surface. Using a large biscuit cutter or a bowl about 4 inches wide, cut out circular shapes from the dough.
- Add Fillings to Pie Circles: Spoon approximately 1 teaspoon of the cheesecake filling onto the center of each circle, followed by 1 tablespoon of chopped apple pie filling. Make sure not to overfill to prevent leaking.
- Seal the Pies: Fold each pie circle over to form a half-moon shape. Press the edges together firmly using the tines of a fork to create a seal. For better sealing, mix the egg and water to create an egg wash and brush the edges before pressing.
- Heat Oil and Fry Pies: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C). Carefully fry the pies in batches, cooking each side for 2 to 3 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
- Drain and Add Toppings: Remove pies with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. While still warm, optionally toss the pies in cinnamon sugar for extra sweetness and flavor.
- Serve: Serve the stuffed fried apple pies warm or cooled. Optionally, drizzle with caramel sauce or dust with powdered sugar for added indulgence.
Notes
- Be careful not to overfill the pies to avoid filling leakage during frying.
- Maintain oil temperature around 350°F to ensure even cooking and prevent greasy pies.
- Use a deep skillet or pot to have enough oil depth for proper frying.
- Cooling pies slightly makes them easier to handle and prevents burns.
- For a variation, try adding nuts or raisins to the apple filling.
- Leftover pies can be reheated in an oven to restore crispiness.
