Ingredients
Scale
For the Dough:
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
- 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 egg yolk
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
For the Filling:
- 2 cups peeled and diced fresh peaches
- â…“ cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
For the Frosting:
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1½ cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1–2 tablespoons milk, as needed for consistency
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy, indicating the yeast is active. Add the egg, egg yolk, and melted butter, mixing until combined. Gradually add flour and salt, stirring until a soft dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Make the Filling: While the dough rises, prepare the peach filling. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine diced peaches, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cornstarch. Cook, stirring frequently, for 5–7 minutes until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and let cool completely before using.
- Assemble the Rolls: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll out on a floured surface into a 14×9-inch rectangle. Spread the softened butter evenly over the surface, then distribute the cooled peach filling over the dough. Roll tightly from the long edge into a log. Slice into 12 equal rolls and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and allow to rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake the Rolls: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before frosting.
- Prepare the Frosting: Beat together softened cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, beating until creamy and smooth. Adjust consistency with milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired thickness is reached.
- Frost and Serve: Spread the creamy frosting generously over the warm rolls. Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- For extra flavor and texture, add chopped toasted pecans to the peach filling before assembling the rolls.
- If fresh peaches are unavailable, canned peaches can be used; make sure to drain them thoroughly to avoid excess moisture.
- These cinnamon rolls are best enjoyed warm but can be reheated gently the next day for a fresh taste.
