Description

These crispy Potato Cheese Sticks are a delightful snack made from mashed potatoes mixed with mozzarella cheese and spices, then coated in breadcrumbs and fried to golden perfection. Perfect as an appetizer or party treat, they offer a cheesy, crunchy bite that’s hard to resist.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 large potatoes
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Boil Potatoes: Peel and boil the potatoes until they are soft enough to be mashed easily, usually about 20-25 minutes.
  2. Mash Potatoes: Drain the boiled potatoes and mash them in a large bowl until smooth and free of lumps to create a creamy base.
  3. Mix Ingredients: Add grated mozzarella cheese, all-purpose flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and salt to the mashed potatoes. Mix thoroughly until a dough-like consistency is formed.
  4. Shape Sticks: Take small portions of the mixture and shape each into rods or sticks by hand, setting them aside on a plate.
  5. Prepare Egg Wash: Beat the egg in a shallow dish to create the coating base.
  6. Prepare Breadcrumbs: Place breadcrumbs in a separate shallow dish ready for coating.
  7. Coat Sticks: Dip each potato stick first into the beaten egg until fully coated, then roll it in breadcrumbs making sure it’s well covered.
  8. Heat Oil: Heat oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat until hot enough for frying (approximately 350°F or 175°C).
  9. Fry Sticks: Carefully place coated potato sticks in the hot oil and fry for 3-4 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides.
  10. Drain Excess Oil: Remove the fried sticks and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  11. Serve: Serve the crispy potato cheese sticks hot with your favorite dipping sauce for a tasty snack or appetizer.

Notes

  • Ensure potatoes are fully cooled and dry before mixing with other ingredients to prevent soggy sticks.
  • You can substitute mozzarella with any melting cheese like cheddar or gouda for a different flavor profile.
  • For extra crispiness, double coat the sticks by repeating the egg and breadcrumb dipping steps.
  • Use a thermometer to maintain the correct oil temperature for best frying results.
  • These sticks can be prepared ahead, shaped, and refrigerated before frying.
