Description

Oven Roasted Green Beans are a simple and delicious side dish featuring fresh green beans tossed in olive oil and seasonings, then roasted to tender-crisp perfection with lightly browned edges. This healthy recipe can be customized with Parmesan cheese or lemon juice for added flavor and pairs wonderfully with a variety of main courses.

Ingredients

Scale

Green Bean Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed

Seasonings and Add-ins

  • 1½ tablespoons olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and facilitate easy cleanup.
  2. Toss Green Beans: In a mixing bowl, combine the trimmed green beans with olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and optional crushed red pepper flakes. Toss well to ensure the green beans are evenly coated with the seasoning mixture.
  3. Arrange on Baking Sheet: Spread the seasoned green beans out in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, making sure there is space between them for even roasting.
  4. Roast: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and roast the green beans for 15 to 18 minutes, stirring once halfway through the cooking time to promote even browning. Roast until they are tender-crisp and lightly browned on the edges.
  5. Finish and Serve: Remove the green beans from the oven, sprinkle with optional grated Parmesan cheese, and serve immediately. Add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice over the top for a bright, fresh finish if desired.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of smoked paprika before roasting or top with toasted almonds after cooking.
  • These green beans make a perfect side for roasted chicken, fish, or steak.
  • To achieve a crispier texture, roast the green beans a few minutes longer, but monitor carefully to prevent burning.
