Description

This Hibachi Chicken recipe features tender, marinated chicken breasts grilled to perfection with a savory blend of soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and fresh ginger. It’s a quick and flavorful dish inspired by Japanese hibachi-style cooking, perfect for a healthy and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

Marinade

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Garnish

  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds (optional)
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the marinade. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, olive oil, minced garlic, grated fresh ginger, rice vinegar, honey, and lemon juice. Whisk the ingredients together until the marinade is smooth and fully blended.
  2. Marinate the chicken. Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper. Place them in a shallow dish and pour the prepared marinade over the chicken, ensuring all pieces are coated. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes; for deeper flavor, marinate overnight.
  3. Preheat the grill. Heat your grill or grill pan over medium-high heat to prepare for cooking the chicken evenly with a nice char.
  4. Grill the chicken. Remove the chicken breasts from the marinade, discarding any excess marinade. Place the chicken on the preheated grill and cook for 6 to 8 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C), indicating the chicken is fully cooked.
  5. Rest the chicken. Remove the grilled chicken from the heat and allow it to rest for 5 minutes to retain juices and improve tenderness before slicing.
  6. Serve and garnish. Slice the rested chicken into strips. Sprinkle with optional sesame seeds and chopped green onions for added flavor and presentation. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For best results, marinate the chicken overnight to maximize flavor penetration.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken reaches a safe internal temperature of 165°F.
  • If you don’t have a grill, a grill pan or cast iron skillet works well for stovetop grilling.
  • Adjust honey and lemon juice according to your preferred balance of sweetness and acidity.
  • Serve with steamed rice and sautéed vegetables for a complete meal.
