Description

These festive Grinch Oreo Truffles are a delightful holiday treat combining red velvet Oreos with creamy cream cheese, coated in vibrant green candy melts and topped with red heart sprinkles. Perfect for Christmas parties or gifting, they offer a rich, creamy texture with a sweet chocolaty crunch, embodying the playful spirit of the Grinch.

Ingredients

Scale

Truffle Base

  • 1 package Red velvet Oreos (22 cookies)
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened

Coating and Decoration

  • 7 oz green candy melts
  • Red heart sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Prepare Truffle Base: Finely crush the Red velvet Oreos in a food processor until no large chunks remain, reserving 2 tablespoons of crumbs separately. In a large mixing bowl, combine the remaining crushed Oreos with the softened cream cheese. Mix thoroughly until you get a thick, uniform dough.
  2. Chill Mixture: Cover the truffle dough mixture and place it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to firm up, making it easier to handle in the next steps.
  3. Roll Truffles: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Using a tablespoon measure, scoop portions of the chilled dough and roll each into smooth, round balls. Arrange them evenly on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Pre-Chill Rolled Truffles: Refrigerate the rolled truffles for another 15 to 20 minutes to ensure they maintain their shape during the dipping process.
  5. Melt Candy Melts: Melt the green candy melts either in a microwave-safe bowl in short bursts, stirring frequently, or using a double boiler until smooth and silky. If the melted candy is too thick, stir in a teaspoon of vegetable oil to thin it slightly, avoiding water which can cause seizing.
  6. Dip and Decorate: Dip each chilled truffle into the melted green candy melts, allowing any excess coating to drip off. Before the coating sets, place one red heart sprinkle on top of each truffle. Return the decorated truffles to the parchment-lined baking sheet.
  7. Final Chill and Store: Refrigerate the dipped truffles for 15 to 30 minutes, or until the candy coating is fully set. Store the truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week to maintain freshness.

Notes

  • Ensure cream cheese is softened to room temperature for easy mixing.
  • Use parchment paper to prevent sticking during rolling and setting.
  • Adding vegetable oil to candy melts helps achieve a smoother, glossier finish.
  • Truffles freeze well; thaw in refrigerator before serving.
  • Handle the truffles gently when dipping to maintain a smooth coating.
