Description

Greek Frappe is a refreshing and frothy iced coffee made with instant coffee, cold water, and optional milk and sugar. Perfect for a cool summer drink, it combines a thick coffee foam layered over ice and topped with cold water or milk, delivering a creamy and invigorating beverage with minimal preparation time.

Ingredients

Scale

Frappe Base

  • 2 teaspoons instant coffee (preferably Nescafé)
  • 1/4 cup cold water (for shaking)
  • Sugar to taste (optional)

To Serve

  • 3/4 cup cold water or milk, or a mix
  • 2–3 ice cubes
  • Evaporated milk or cream (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Coffee Foam: In a shaker, jar with a tight lid, or using a handheld frother, combine the instant coffee, 1/4 cup cold water, and sugar if desired. Shake or froth vigorously for about 30 seconds until a thick, creamy, and foamy layer forms on top.
  2. Fill Glass with Ice: Place 2–3 ice cubes into a tall serving glass to chill the drink thoroughly and provide a refreshing base.
  3. Assemble the Drink: Pour the thick coffee foam carefully over the ice cubes in the glass, creating a layered effect.
  4. Add Cold Water or Milk: Top the glass with the remaining 3/4 cup cold water, milk, or a mixture of both. Stir gently to combine the foam with the liquid below without losing the frothy texture.
  5. Optional Topping: Add a splash of evaporated milk or cream on top for extra creaminess and flavor, if desired. Serve immediately with a straw.

Notes

  • Adjust the sugar to your preference: “sketos” means no sugar, “metrios” is moderately sweet with 1–2 teaspoons, and “glykos” is very sweet with 2 or more teaspoons.
  • For easier preparation, use a handheld milk frother or an electric blender instead of shaking by hand.
  • Use cold water or cold milk to maintain the refreshing chill and sustain the foam texture.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the best froth and flavor.
