Ingredients
Scale
Marinated Chicken:
- 1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- juice of 1 lemon
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
For Serving:
- 4–6 pita breads
- 1 cup tzatziki sauce
- 1 cup chopped tomatoes
- 1/2 cup sliced red onion
- 1 cup shredded lettuce or cucumber slices
- crumbled feta cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl or zip-top bag, combine olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken and toss to coat. Marinate for at least 30 minutes or up to 12 hours in the refrigerator.
- Cook the Chicken: Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken for 5–6 minutes per side, or until fully cooked and nicely charred. Let rest for 5 minutes, then slice into strips.
- Assemble the Gyros: Warm the pita breads and spread each with a generous spoonful of tzatziki sauce. Top with sliced chicken, tomatoes, red onion, lettuce or cucumber, and feta if using. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Use chicken thighs for juicier gyros, or substitute with grilled shrimp or lamb.
- Tzatziki can be homemade or store-bought.
- For a low-carb option, serve in lettuce wraps or bowls.
