Ingredients
Scale
Tea Base
- 1 cup Filtered Water (for best flavor extraction)
- 2-3 bags Black Tea (Assam, Darjeeling, or English Breakfast)
Milk Mix
- 1.5 cups Milk (Whole or 2% for best creamy texture)
- To taste Sugar (Granulated white sugar, brown sugar, or honey)
Instructions
- Boil the Water: Bring 1 cup of filtered water to a boil in a small saucepan or kettle to prepare for steeping the tea bags.
- Steep the Tea: Once boiling, pour the hot water over 2 to 3 black tea bags in a heatproof container and let steep for about 5 minutes until the tea is strong and aromatic.
- Heat the Milk: While the tea steeps, warm 1.5 cups of milk in a separate saucepan over medium-low heat until it’s hot but not boiling, stirring occasionally to avoid skin formation.
- Combine Tea and Milk: Remove tea bags and gently squeeze out extra liquid, then combine the brewed tea with the warm milk in the saucepan.
- Add Sweetener: Stir in sugar, brown sugar, or honey to taste, adjusting sweetness based on preference, continuing to warm the combined mixture for another 2 minutes without boiling.
- Serve Warm: Pour the royal milk tea into cups and enjoy immediately for a cozy, comforting beverage experience.
Notes
- Use whole or 2% milk for the creamiest texture; non-dairy alternatives won’t provide the traditional silky consistency.
- Adjust the number of tea bags depending on how strong you want your tea base.
- Sweeten to preference, but start with one tablespoon and increase gradually.
- For an iced version, chill the tea and serve over ice.
- Using filtered water improves the clarity and taste of the tea.
