Description

A rich and flavorful baked sausage cheese dip perfect for parties and gatherings. This creamy, cheesy dip combines savory cooked sausage with a blend of cream cheese, sour cream, cheddar, and mozzarella cheeses, seasoned with garlic and smoked paprika for depth. Baked to golden, bubbly perfection and optionally topped with Parmesan cheese, it’s ideal served warm with crackers, chips, or bread.

Ingredients

Scale

Sausage Mixture

  • 1 lb ground sausage (spicy or mild, your choice)

Cheese Mixture

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Seasonings and Add-ins

  • 1/4 cup green onions, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional for extra flavor)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce (optional, for added spice)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional for topping)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage, breaking it apart with a spatula, until fully browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat and set the cooked sausage aside to cool slightly.
  2. Prepare the Cheese Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, shredded mozzarella cheese, chopped green onions, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well mixed. Fold in the cooled cooked sausage and hot sauce if using, ensuring an even distribution.
  3. Transfer to Baking Dish: Spread the sausage and cheese mixture evenly into a 9×9-inch (or similar size) baking dish.
  4. Bake the Dip: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the dip for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden and bubbling. For a crispier top, broil the dip for 1-2 minutes at the end, watching carefully to prevent burning.
  5. Add Parmesan and Serve: Remove from oven and sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top if desired. Let the dip cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with your favorite crackers, chips, or sliced bread for dipping.

Notes

  • Use mild or spicy sausage according to your preference to control the heat level.
  • To make cleanup easier, line your baking dish with foil or parchment paper.
  • The hot sauce is optional but adds a nice kick if desired.
  • You can substitute the green onions with chives or omit if preferred.
  • For extra cheesiness, add more shredded cheese on top before baking.
  • This dip can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated before baking; just add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
