Ingredients
Scale
Fruit Mixture
- 1 pound strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1 cup blueberries
- 1 cup raspberries
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
Mascarpone Cream
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 ounces mascarpone cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Additional Ingredients
- 1 package (7 ounces) ladyfingers or sponge cake, cut into pieces
- 1/4 cup orange juice or berry liqueur (optional)
- Fresh mint and extra berries for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the berry mixture: In a bowl, toss the sliced strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries with 1/4 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons lemon juice. Let the mixture sit for 10 to 15 minutes to allow the berries to release their juices and macerate.
- Whip the heavy cream: In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream until soft peaks form, ensuring a light and airy texture that will blend well with the mascarpone.
- Make the mascarpone mixture: Beat 8 ounces of softened mascarpone cheese with 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined, creating a silky dessert cream.
- Assemble the trifle: Layer half of the ladyfingers or sponge cake pieces into the bottom of a trifle dish or large glass bowl. If desired, drizzle with 1/4 cup orange juice or berry liqueur for added flavor. Spoon half of the mascarpone cream over the ladyfingers, then top with half of the berry mixture including its juices.
- Complete the layers: Repeat with the remaining ladyfingers, mascarpone mixture, and berries to create a second layer of each component.
- Chill the trifle: Refrigerate the assembled trifle for at least 2 to 3 hours or preferably overnight to allow all flavors to meld and the dessert to set.
- Garnish and serve: Just before serving, garnish the trifle with fresh mint leaves and additional berries for an appealing and fresh presentation.
Notes
- For an alcohol-free version, substitute orange juice for the berry liqueur or omit soaking altogether.
- You can replace mascarpone with a mixture of cream cheese and sour cream for a more accessible alternative.
- Chilling time enhances flavor development, so overnight chilling is recommended if possible.
