Description

A refreshing and elegant Berry Tiramisu Trifle combining layers of fresh berries, creamy mascarpone, and ladyfingers soaked in orange juice or berry liqueur for a no-bake Italian-American dessert perfect for summer gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Fruit Mixture

  • 1 pound strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup raspberries
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Mascarpone Cream

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces mascarpone cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Additional Ingredients

  • 1 package (7 ounces) ladyfingers or sponge cake, cut into pieces
  • 1/4 cup orange juice or berry liqueur (optional)
  • Fresh mint and extra berries for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the berry mixture: In a bowl, toss the sliced strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries with 1/4 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons lemon juice. Let the mixture sit for 10 to 15 minutes to allow the berries to release their juices and macerate.
  2. Whip the heavy cream: In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream until soft peaks form, ensuring a light and airy texture that will blend well with the mascarpone.
  3. Make the mascarpone mixture: Beat 8 ounces of softened mascarpone cheese with 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined, creating a silky dessert cream.
  4. Assemble the trifle: Layer half of the ladyfingers or sponge cake pieces into the bottom of a trifle dish or large glass bowl. If desired, drizzle with 1/4 cup orange juice or berry liqueur for added flavor. Spoon half of the mascarpone cream over the ladyfingers, then top with half of the berry mixture including its juices.
  5. Complete the layers: Repeat with the remaining ladyfingers, mascarpone mixture, and berries to create a second layer of each component.
  6. Chill the trifle: Refrigerate the assembled trifle for at least 2 to 3 hours or preferably overnight to allow all flavors to meld and the dessert to set.
  7. Garnish and serve: Just before serving, garnish the trifle with fresh mint leaves and additional berries for an appealing and fresh presentation.

Notes

  • For an alcohol-free version, substitute orange juice for the berry liqueur or omit soaking altogether.
  • You can replace mascarpone with a mixture of cream cheese and sour cream for a more accessible alternative.
  • Chilling time enhances flavor development, so overnight chilling is recommended if possible.
