Description
A quick and flavorful Beef Onion Stir Fry featuring tender sirloin, sautéed onions, and colorful bell peppers in a savory soy-based marinade. Perfect for a satisfying weeknight dinner served over steamed rice or noodles.
Ingredients
Scale
Beef Marinade
- 1 lb beef sirloin, sliced against the grain
- 3 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water
Vegetables & Seasoning
- 2 medium yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 1 cup bell peppers (red, yellow, or green), sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
Instructions
- Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with soy sauce, the cornstarch-water mixture, and brown sugar. Mix well and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes to tenderize and infuse flavor.
- Sauté Aromatics and Onions: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add minced garlic and sliced onions to the pan and cook until the onions become translucent and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
- Cook Bell Peppers: Add the sliced bell peppers to the skillet and stir-fry for 2 to 3 minutes until they soften but still retain some crunch.
- Cook the Beef: Push the vegetables to one side of the skillet, then add the marinated beef to the empty side. Spread the beef out and cook, stirring occasionally, until it is browned and cooked through, about 4 to 5 minutes.
- Combine and Thicken Sauce: Mix the vegetables and beef together in the center of the skillet. Pour any remaining marinade over the mixture, add sesame oil, and stir continuously until the sauce thickens and coats everything evenly, about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Serve: Remove from heat and serve the stir fry hot over steamed rice or noodles for a delicious meal.
Notes
- Slice beef against the grain for maximum tenderness.
- Adjust soy sauce quantity based on desired saltiness.
- Use low-sodium soy sauce to keep sodium levels moderate.
- Sear beef quickly to avoid overcooking and toughness.
- Feel free to substitute sirloin with flank steak or ribeye for different textures.
- Serve with steamed rice or noodles to complete the meal.
