Ingredients
Scale
Beef and Mushrooms
- 1 lb (450g) thinly sliced beef (sirloin, flank steak, or rib-eye work well)
- 8 oz (225g) enoki mushrooms, trimmed
Sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional for extra flavor)
- 2 teaspoons rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, finely grated (optional)
Cooking
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for cooking)
Garnish (optional)
- Sesame seeds
- Chopped green onions
Instructions
- Prepare the Beef and Mushrooms: Lay the thinly sliced beef flat on a clean surface. Take small bunches of enoki mushrooms (about 10-15 mushrooms per roll) and place them at one end of each beef slice.
- Roll the Beef: Roll the beef tightly around the enoki mushrooms, securing them with toothpicks if necessary. Repeat this process until all beef slices are rolled up.
- Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, oyster sauce (if using), rice vinegar, sugar, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Stir thoroughly until the sugar is completely dissolved and the sauce is well mixed.
- Heat the Pan: Heat a large skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat and add vegetable oil, allowing it to warm up before cooking.
- Cook the Beef Rolls: Place the beef rolls in the hot pan and sear on all sides, turning occasionally to ensure even browning. Cook for about 5-6 minutes or until the beef is cooked through. If the beef browns too fast, reduce heat to medium.
- Add and Simmer with Sauce: Once the beef rolls are cooked, pour the prepared sauce over them. Let the rolls simmer for 1-2 minutes, occasionally spooning the sauce over the rolls to allow it to thicken slightly and coat the beef evenly.
- Serve: Remove the beef rolls from the skillet and discard any toothpicks used for securing the rolls.
- Garnish and Enjoy: Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired. Serve the beef enoki rolls hot alongside steamed rice or vegetables for a complete meal.
Notes
- Choose thinly sliced beef like sirloin, flank steak, or rib-eye for tender rolls that cook quickly.
- Trim the root ends of the enoki mushrooms to prevent bitterness and to make rolling easier.
- Oyster sauce is optional but adds a deeper umami flavor to the sauce.
- Use toothpicks to secure the rolls to prevent unraveling during cooking.
- Adjust cooking heat as necessary to avoid burning the beef while ensuring it cooks through.
- Serve immediately for the best taste and texture.
