Description

A refreshing and vibrant Balsamic Strawberry Caprese salad featuring fresh strawberries, creamy mozzarella, and aromatic basil leaves, drizzled with a sweet and tangy balsamic glaze. Perfect as a light appetizer or side dish, combining the traditional flavors of Caprese with a fruity twist.

Ingredients

Scale

Salad Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine), sliced in half
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, torn into smaller pieces
  • Salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)

Balsamic Glaze (Optional)

  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional, for sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Strawberries: Rinse and hull the strawberries, then slice them into thin rounds or quarters as preferred, ensuring even, bite-sized pieces for the salad.
  2. Assemble the Salad: Arrange the sliced strawberries, fresh mozzarella halves, and torn basil leaves alternately on a large serving dish or platter in an appealing pattern to showcase the colors and textures.
  3. Make the Balsamic Glaze (Optional): In a small saucepan, combine the balsamic vinegar and honey if using. Simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture reduces by half and attains a syrupy consistency, approximately 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  4. Drizzle and Season: Drizzle the balsamic glaze or directly balsamic vinegar over the arranged salad. Optionally, add a drizzle of olive oil. Finish by seasoning with salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste.
  5. Serve: Garnish with additional fresh basil leaves if desired and serve immediately as a light, fresh appetizer or side dish.

Notes

  • The balsamic glaze step is optional but adds a richer flavor and beautiful glossy finish to the salad.
  • For a vegan alternative, substitute mozzarella with a plant-based cheese.
  • Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best natural sweetness and juiciness.
  • Can be served chilled or at room temperature depending on preference.
  • Drizzling olive oil is optional but adds a smooth richness to the salad.
