Description

This simple and delicious recipe shows you how to roast garlic effortlessly in an air fryer, resulting in perfectly tender, caramelized cloves that enhance any dish with their rich, mellow flavor. Using minimal ingredients and quick cooking time, it’s a fantastic way to prepare garlic for spreads, sauces, or as a flavorful addition to meals.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 head of garlic (or up to 5 heads for larger batches)
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready for roasting the garlic.
  2. Prepare the garlic: Remove any loose, flaky paper from the garlic bulb while keeping the bulb intact with all cloves attached. Slice off the top of the bulb to expose the tops of the cloves, and if needed, make a gentle cut around the side to expose any cloves that remain covered.
  3. Season the garlic: Drizzle the garlic bulb with 1 teaspoon of olive oil and sprinkle a pinch of salt over it. Use a pastry brush or your fingers to gently rub the oil and salt all over the garlic to coat it evenly.
  4. Wrap the garlic: Place a square piece of parchment paper on top of a square piece of aluminum foil. Set the garlic bulb on the parchment paper, then wrap the garlic tightly in the foil and parchment paper to form a sealed packet.
  5. Cook in the air fryer: Place the wrapped garlic bulb in the air fryer basket and cook for 20 to 25 minutes. For more than 2 or 3 heads of garlic, extend the time by an additional 5 to 10 minutes until the cloves are tender and caramelized.
  6. Remove and cool: Carefully remove the foil packet from the air fryer using tongs or oven mitts, as it will be very hot and filled with steam. Allow it to cool until it is safe to handle.
  7. Extract the cloves: Open the packet cautiously to avoid steam burns. Once cool enough to handle, gently squeeze the base of the bulb to push out the roasted garlic cloves or use a spoon to scoop them out from the skins.

Notes

  • You can roast multiple garlic heads at once; just increase the cooking time as needed.
  • The parchment paper inside the foil prevents the garlic from sticking to the foil and makes cleanup easier.
  • Use roasted garlic in spreads, mashed potatoes, sauces, or salad dressings for a flavorful twist.
  • Store any leftover roasted garlic in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
